एक स्थानीय रेस्तरां में कथित तौर पर एक व्यक्ति को तंदूरी रोटी पर थूकते हुए दिखाने वाला एक वीडियो ऑनलाइन सामने आने के बाद हिंदू संगठनों ने गुरुवार को यहां प्रदर्शन किया, प्रदर्शनकारियों ने दावा किया कि इस कृत्य से धार्मिक भावनाएं आहत हुई हैं।
विश्व हिंदू परिषद, बजरंग दल और उत्तराखंड क्रांति दल (उक्रांद) के कार्यकर्ता मुख्य बाजार क्षेत्र में एकत्र हुए, कारोबार बंद कराया और हनुमान चौक पर नारे लगाए।
कई स्थानीय हिंदू व्यापारी जवाबदेही और न्याय की मांग करते हुए विरोध में शामिल हुए। आगामी दिवाली त्योहार के कारण दिन में कारोबार फिर से खुल गया।
पुलिस उपाधीक्षक (डीएसपी) जनक पंवार ने कहा कि पुलिस को बुधवार रात शिकायत मिली थी कि पेट्रोल पंप के पास एक रेस्तरां के एक कर्मचारी ने कथित तौर पर स्थानीय लोगों की धार्मिक भावनाओं को आहत करते हुए भोजन पर थूक दिया था। इस कृत्य का एक कथित वीडियो ऑनलाइन सामने आया।
इसके बाद भारतीय न्याय संहिता की धारा 295 (ए) (धार्मिक भावनाओं को ठेस पहुंचाना) और 274 (खाद्य पदार्थों में मिलावट) के तहत मामला दर्ज किया गया।
पंवार ने कहा कि खाद्य सुरक्षा विभाग ने पुलिस रिपोर्ट के आधार पर रेस्तरां का लाइसेंस रद्द करने की प्रक्रिया शुरू कर दी है।
अल्पसंख्यक सेवा समिति के अध्यक्ष इश्तियाक अहमद ने घटना को “शर्मनाक कृत्य” बताते हुए इसकी निंदा की और जिम्मेदार लोगों के सामाजिक बहिष्कार का आह्वान किया। उन्होंने सामाजिक सद्भाव बनाए रखने के महत्व पर जोर देते हुए शांतिपूर्ण समाधान का आग्रह किया।
आगे अशांति को रोकने के प्रयास में, पुलिस और स्थानीय प्रशासन ने शहर में कानून व्यवस्था सुनिश्चित करने के लिए हिंदू संगठनों और व्यापारियों के साथ बैठक की।
