हालांकि उत्तराखंड के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री ने यह बात हल्के-फुल्के अंदाज में कही, लेकिन राजनीतिक पर्यवेक्षकों का मानना है कि रावत ने अपने राजनीतिक प्रतिद्वंद्वियों के लिए एक संदेश छोड़ा है कि वह निकट भविष्य में सार्वजनिक जीवन में सक्रिय होने जा रहे हैं।
उत्तराखंड के चमोली जिले के गैरसैंण में एक कार्यक्रम में एक सभा को संबोधित करते हुए, रावत ने कहा, “मैंने फैसला किया है कि जब तक मैं ट्रम्प को व्हाइट हाउस में बाजरे से बनी रोटी खाते हुए नहीं देखूंगा, मैं बूढ़ा नहीं होऊंगा।”
